Profile of Perugia in the Heart of Italy

Tuesday January 3, 2006
Perugia is a lively medieval walled hilltown with many historic buildings, people-filled squares, and modern shops. It is in the center of the region of Umbria, Tuscany's neighbor and Italy's "Green Heart". Perugia has a lot to offer the traveler and is a good base for visiting other hilltowns in Umbria such as Assisi, Spello, and Gubbio. Take a look at Perugia with our Perugia Profile and Travel Essentials.

Perugia is one of my favorite Italian cities and one of my choices for Top Ten Cities of Italy. I was lucky enough to get to spend a month living in Perugia studying Italian at Perugia's excellent school for foreigners, the Unviersita per Stanieri. Read more about the experience of Studying Italian in Perugia from the Europe for Visitors guide.
