Travel Italy by Train

Wednesday February 8, 2006
Traveling by train is a great way to visit Italy. Trains are fairly inexpensive while gas prices in Italy are high. Travel in big cities with a car is difficult and looking for parking can be a real hassle so if your trip includes mainly cities the train is really the way to go. The train is relaxing and you can enjoy the scenery. Trains may be crowded, especially in the south so if you're traveling a long distance on the train it's a good idea to reserve a seat. Also, always remember to validate your ticket in the little yellow machine at the station before boarding the train. You can incur a large fine for neglecting to do so.

Italy's train company, Trenitalia, is offering some special fares for winter. The Trenitalia Pass Winter Promo is good for travel through March 31. It's easy to plan your train travel on the Trenitalia site. You can check the schedules and prices. You can also check the news section for the latest information on train strikes. No need to worry about strikes during the Olympics - a truce was negotiated.
