Concerts in the Torino Winter Olympics Medal Plaza

Friday February 17, 2006
Piazza Castello, in the center of Torino, serves as one of the stages for the awarding of the Olympic medals duirng the Torino Winter Olympics. This blends Italian tradition nicely into the Torino Olympics since the piazza has always been the heart of Italian cities, towns, and villages. Besides the awarding of the Olympic medals, evening concerts are being held in Piazza Castello following the medals ceremonies. Tonight Anastacia will perform and Paolo Conte, one of my favorite Italian singers, is scheduled for Saturday. Performers scheduled during the remaining days of the Olympics are:
  • 2-19 Whitney Houston
  • 2-20 Nek
  • 2-21 Avril Lavigne
  • 2-22 Ricky Martin
  • 2-23 Lou Reed
  • 2-24 Max Pezzali
  • 2-25 Riccardo Cocciante

55 of the 80 medals ceremonies will take place in Piazza Castello. Torino 2006 has an awards ceremony calendar for the Medals Plaza. James Martin of Europe for Visitors has some pictures of Piazza Castello.

There are a number of cultural events taking place throughout Turin during the Cultural Olympiad, including music, dance, theater, and exhibitions. Although most take place during the Olympics and Paralympics coming in March, some events are scheduled through June. Cultural Olympiad Events
