Genoa, in the northwestern region of Liguria, is Italy's principal seaport and was a 2004 European Culture Capital. Genoa is a great Italy travel destination and has a fascinating aquarium, an interesting port, and a historic center said to be the largest medieval quarter in Europe, with a wealth of churches, palaces, and museums. Here is Rapallo Information. Rapallo is one of my favorites along the coast near Genoa.
My ancestors come from Genoa to the gold country of California in 1849. I would like to visit Genoa and try to track down the family, if possible. Any ideas on how to do this in a very limited amount of time?

Genoa has an airport so you can fly right into Genoa. For example, you can fly on Lufthansa non-stop to Germany from many US cities, then straight to Genoa. Do as much research as you can ahead of time. They might not actually be from the city of Genoa but from one of many small towns in the Genoa province.
