Italy's Week of Culture
Sunday April 2, 2006
April 2-9 is Italy's annual week of culture, la settimana della Cultura. During the week, many museums and sites will have free or reduced admission or longer hours. There will also be various free concerts, shows, and children's events. So if you're traveling around Italy this week, take a look at what's happening. Local tourist offices can probably give you information or look for posters around town. The settimana della Cultura website lists events (in Italian).
Holy Week, the week preceding Easter, is the following week. There will be many processions and special events, especially towards the end of the week. If you're traveling in Italy, note that Easter Monday, known as La Pasquetta, is also a holiday so many shops and services will be closed. There are some fun activites and concerts to celebrate La Pasquetta. If you're in Umbria, for example, you might want to head to Panicale for the giant cheese-rolling contest.
