Of course, it's not big deal to be topless in Tuscany--or the rest of Italy for that matter--although it's a bigger deal now than it used to be. Nevertheless, you may not be familiar with Tuscany as a beach destination. Let's just say that Italians have been enjoying Tuscan beaches at Versilia for years; Versilia being host to a string of seaside resorts in the shadow of the Apuan Alps, where the best Italian marble comes from.

You’re right about going topless being less popular than it was a while back — the early 80s to be exact. It’s also something I don’t really associate with Il Forte, which seems a bit too socially conscious somehow. Are thongs and topless bathing permitted on the italian beaches
Thongs can be worn on Italian beaches (although some private beaches may have their own rules). As mentioned above, topless bathing is not as prominent as it once was. I do occasionally see topless women on beaches, especially more secluded ones.
