Visiting Etruscan Tombs in Tarquinia

Thursday July 6, 2006
Funerary Urn at Tarquinia's Etruscan NecropolisTarquinia, once one of the 12  major Etruscan cities, is one of the best places to see Etruscan tombs and findings. Last week during our stay at Fontana del Papa, we visited some of the Etruscan tombs in Northern Lazio, including the tombs at Tarquinia. The huge necropolis includes many fine examples of painted tombs from the 6th-2nd century BC. Each day about 15 tombs are open to the public for viewing in the Necropolis park near the town.

Tarquinia also has a good museum with Etruscan artifacts. Besides Etruscan sites, the town of Tarquinia has an interesting medieval center, a nice central square, and several churches worth visiting. Find out more about Tarquinia and visiting the tombs in our Tarquinia Travel Essentials and take a look at some pictures of Etruscan tombs in Tarquinia from Europe for Visitors.
