Using the Internet in Italy

Wednesday July 12, 2006
Last year Italy passed a law that everyone using public internet must present an identity document. So when you go to Italy, be prepared to show your passport before using the internet. They will make a photocopy of the passport or record your name and passport number. We were told that this is aimed at increasing security and preventing terrorism.

Hi Martha, I just came back from Italy and had very good experience using an UMTS Card from TIM. The whole game costed 60 Euros (prepaid SIM Card+500 MB data package), but it saved me the hassle of looking after a webcafè and let my passport be xeroxed all the time!

Hi, I got the card through Squidoo and everything worked fine. Some people came to use my laptop (I had an almost flat offer from Wind) and it was a nice c…magnet!

I followed the tip and got an UMTS SIM Card from Wind. I paid only € 9 for 50 hours and it was as fast as at home!

Did you buy these before you went to Italy, or were they easy to find there?
