Italy Museum News

Wednesday July 26, 2006
What Italian museum was the most visited museum in 2005? According to the Italian Touring Club the most visited museum in Italy was the Doge's Palace in Venice with 1,500,000 visitors. The Santa Croce Museum and the Uffizzi Gallery in Florence came in second and third.

The Egyptian Museum in Turin has one of the largest Egyptian collections in the world. It's now possible to see some of the most important pieces online thanks to the Museo delle Antichita Egizie di Torino. Take a look at the Torino Egyptian Museum online. The Torino Museum of Antiquity has added more than 350 Hellenist and Roman pieces, mostly from tombs, making its Cypriot archaeology collection one of the largest and most important in the world.

Now that the Winter Olympics are over and the huge crowds are gone, maybe it's time for a visit to Turin's excellent museums. Turin's tourist board is offering tours of Olympic sites every Friday through December 15, too. The tour starts at the Turismo Torino Information Point in Piazza Solferino and travels by bus with explanations in Italian, English, and French. When you travel to Turin, try the Torino Pass or the Choco Pass (for chocolate lovers). Information from Turismo Torino.
