St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican city is one of the largest and most important Catholic Churches in the World. In front of the Basilica is a huge piazza ringed with eliptical colonnades topped with statues of former Popes. The dome of St. Peter's is nearly as large as the Pantheon's dome and can be seen from a long distance.
Although entrance to St. Peter's is free, the lines are long. The best time to visit St. Peter's to avoid a long wait is in the afternoon or during the off-season. Many people visit St. Peter's Basilica when they travel to Rome and St. Peter's is one of the top Rome Churches to Visit. Enjoy our Pictures of St. Peters Basilica.
