In the Footsteps of St. Francis: Sanctuary of Le Celle
Did you know you can take a pleasant walk through the woods outside the walls of Cortona and visit a monastery started by Saint Francis of Assisi? The 13th century monastery, often called Convento delle Celle or Convent of the Cells, is in a stunning location, spilling down the slopes of Monte Sant' Edigio. You can walk around the beautiful grounds of the monastery and visit Saint Francis' spartan cell with its stone bed and wooden pillow. There's also a small church and shop. If you don't want to walk, it's possible to get there by car, too. Enjoy our Pictures of Le Celle.
