Florence's May Music Festival

Florence's annual music festival, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, is in May and June. The music festival is one of the performing arts highlights in Florence and a good opportunity to enjoy Italian culture. This year's program, the 70th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, ends with a concert conducted by Zubin Mehta on June 30.

Also celebrated in May in Tuscany are Pinocchio's birthday and the Chianti Wine Festival (see Chianti Wine Tasting for information about the Chianti wine region). Elsewhere in Italy, May festivals include a Roman fest, medieval jousting tournament, and flower festivals. Cantine Aperte, Open Cantinas, will be celebrated all over Italy.
