Chocolate and Coffee in Turin

Friday June 1, 2007
In My Italy in June, the newsletter from My Italy - Piedmont - Marche - and - more, Andrew Smith says
Turin is home to the world's most wonderful chocolates. The Swiss and the Belgians don’t come close. Did you know Turin was where chocolate in solid, as opposed to drinking form, was first made? They made it first and have had the most time to perfect it. The only shame is that most of the best chocolates don’t keep long and therefore to buy them even in the rest of Italy is difficult.
Find out more on his Gourmet Chocolates guide.

Turin Italy Travel Picture baratti cafeTurin was also one of the first cities in Italy to embrace a cafe society and has some of the best cafes in Italy. Elegant and historic bars and cafes are everywhere in central Turin. Try a bicerin, a local layered drink made with coffee, chocolate, and cream (bicerin picture). Cafes in Turin also serve other interesting trendy coffee drinks.

While sitting at a table in a coffee house like Baratti & Milano will cost you almost as much as in Piazza San Marco in Venice, you can save money by sipping your coffee while standing at the bar. There are less costly cafes in Turin, too. See our Turin Historic Coffee House Pictures for more about Turin cafes.
