Visiting Pontremoli - a Medieval Town in the Lunigiana
Pontremoli is a picturesque medieval town and the gateway to Tuscany's Lunigiana region, a less-touristed area of Tuscany. Above the town is a restored castle with an interesting museum of prehistoric stele statues from the region. Pontremoli is a pleasant town for walking and enjoying a drink or gelato at a bar on the square. There are several good restaurants, too, with regional specialties.
Saturday was market day and we enjoyed a pleasant morning shopping, strolling through town, and eating lunch in one of Pontremoli's restaurants. Find out what to see in Pontremoli and how to get there with our Pontremoli Travel Essentials.
The Lunigiana region around Pontremoli has remains of many Malaspina castles, picturesque medieval villages, and wooded hills with good hiking trails. Europe for Visitors has a map of the Lunigiana region with more information about what to see and do in the area.
