Northern Italy's Piedmont Region

Sunday July 8, 2007
This week we'll be spending a few days in the region of Piedmont, or Piemonte, in northern Italy. We'll visit Piedmont's wine region, producer of some of Italy's top wines, and then head to the mountains where the 2006 Winter Olympics were held.

Piedmont is Italy's culinary star, with fine cheeses, wines, and the celebrated white truffle. Over 160 different cheeses are found in the Piedmont, and the Piedmont is home to some of Italy's best restaurants. It's also the home of the Slow Food Movement.

Piedmont has a varied terrain, from the rice fields and vineyards to the mountains shared with France and Switzerland. There's plenty of natural beauty and many outdoor activities are available to the visitor.
