Trajan's Markets Reopen to Public in Rome

Wednesday October 24, 2007
Trajan's Markets, one of Rome's top ancient sites, reopened to the public last week. The markets, built in 113 AD, are believed to have been the world's first shopping mall and apartment complex but recent finds suggest they may have been administrative buildings for Emperor Trajan who ruled Rome from 98 to 117 AD.

The highlight of Trajan's Markets is the new Museum of the Imperial Forums, housing a wealth of artifacts from all of ancient Rome's forums. Trajan's Markets and the museum, at Via IV Novembre 94 near the Roman Forum, are open 9 - 4:30 in winter and 9 - 6:30 in summer every day except Monday. Current full admission is 6.50 euro. The Trajan's Markets web site has more information and a good photo gallery.

You can save on admission to Trajan's Markets by buying a Roma Pass. Read more about Roma Pass and other Rome discount cards in Rome Passes and Cards.

Just an idea for a cooking holiday in the Roman Countryside.Toghether with my Australian wife I run fun cooking holidays in beautiful and unspoilt Sabina, just north of Rome. Day, weekend and week-long courses are available.
