Tuscany - Top Place to Go in Italy in 2008
Tuscany is the top Italian destination to make the New York Times list of The 53 Places to Go in 2008. Tuscany, already a favorite Italian travel destination, is a large region with the most varied landscape in Italy. Tuscany's travel attractions include beautiful scenery, historic cities and art, and great wine and food.
The Renaissance city of Florence and the hill towns of Siena and Cortona are the most visited places in Tuscany and the Chianti Classico Wine Region in between is another popular destination. Versilia, Tuscany's northern coast, has good beaches with a background of the Apuan Alps, famous for marble production.
There are still parts of Tuscany where you can get off the beaten track and away from the crowds. In the Garfagnana region of northern Tuscany you'll find gems like Barga and in the Lunigiana region farther north, take a look at Pontremoli, a good medieval town and castle.
