Sicily Beach Recommendation

Tuesday January 15, 2008
Italy Travel Picture sicily coastSebastian Harrison of CellularAbroad, who has a house in Sicily, recommends the beach at Realmonte near Agrigento, Sicily. Sebastian says:
The beaches around Agrigento cannot be beat. Realmonte is one of the nicest beaches I have ever seen in Italy and I have traveled extensively there. The Scala dei Turchi is made out of marna (in Italian), which is a soft clay like rock. Sometimes you see people wet it and spread it on their bodies to cleanse the skin. Also, you can climb on the steps of the Scala dei Turchi. There is also a restaurant (a shack really) at Realmonte where you can eat wearing your bathing suit yet has some of the best fish and pasta with fish in it you have ever had. Why? Because everything was swimming in the ocean the night before! The cost is about $15-20 a person.
Sebastian sent a link to photos of the area posted on Bed and Breakfast Scala dei Turchi, the only B&B in the area. You'll see few tourists so it sounds like a great place for relaxing, swimming, eating fantastic seafood, and visiting nearby sites like the salt sculptures (shown in the photos) and the temples at Agrigento.
