Off the Beaten Track in Emilia Romagna
Italy's Emilia Romagna region is famous for its excellent cuisine so it's not surprising that you'll find great food even in little towns like Brisighella. You've probably never heard of Brisighella, but it's definitely worth a visit. Although popular with Italians for both the food and the spa, there aren't many tourists here.
Brisighella has a remarkable silhouette - rising above the town's medieval center are three rocky pinnacles, topped by the Rocca Manfrediana, an unusual clock tower, and the Monticino Sanctuary. The picturesque Via degli Asini, a 12th century covered passageway with porticos and lanterns, is the most unique part of the medieval center. There's a lively piazza, a weekly market, and a big medieval festival in summer. Read more about Brisighella in our Brisighella Travel Guide and take a look at Brisighella Pictures on Europe Travel.
Brisighella is on the Faenza - Florence rail line and makes a good base for exploring nearby towns and castles of the eastern Emilia Romagna region famous for ceramics, mosaics, and of course food. Take a look at our suggested Eastern Emilia Romagna Itinerary to find out where to go.
