Traveling to Tuscany's Lunigiana Region

Friday March 7, 2008
We've arrived at our home in the Lunigiana region of northern Tuscany via Dublin, where Bernd Biege of Ireland Travel took us out for a great day in the country. From Dublin we flew to Nice, France, and spent the night near St. Paul de Vence, a picturesque medieval village recommended by Kelby Carr of France Travel.

In Nice we picked up our Renault lease buy-back car. Leasing a car is a great way to go if you're traveling for at least three weeks. Not only will you save money, but you'll get a fully insured brand new car of your choice. You can save money by picking up the car in France since you'll avoid the delivery charge.

pontremoli pictureThe Lunigiana region is a scenic area of northern Tuscany with small medieval villages and castles, wooded hills with good hiking trails, and traditional festivals. Here you'll find fewer tourists and lower prices than in other parts of Tuscany. Pontremoli, shown in the picture, is a well-preserved medieval town and one of the principal towns of the Lunigiana.

From our house we can easily visit Lucca and Pisa in Tuscany, the Italian Riviera villages between here and Genoa, and the Emilia-Romagna city of Parma.
