2008 Gas Prices in Italy

Thursday March 13, 2008
We're driving a Renault Clio diesel that we leased through the buy back program at Renault Eurodrive (book direct). Having a diesel saves us a little on the cost of gas and diesel cars usually get better mileage. We filled our tank at a cost of €1.286 per liter but we've driven about 500km and the gas gauge still reads over half full. Regular gas prices are about €.08 to .10 more per liter than diesel.

Updated May 2008 - Gas prices when we left Italy near the end of May had gone up to nearly euro 1.50 per liter with diesel only a few cents less. The last time I filled up my car (a small Renault Clio), I paid by credit card. The amount is US dollars was just over $100 (including the foreign transaction fee).

The buy back program is a great deal if you're going for three weeks or longer. For shorter periods, I recommend renting through Auto Europe (book direct). They act as a broker to find the best prices for your car and provide good insurance coverage.
