Sicily Bed and Breakfast Recommendation
Sebastian Harrison of CellularAbroad, who has a house in Sicily, recommended that we stay at the friendly
Bed and Breakfast Scala dei Turchi in Realmonte, Sicily, where he says the beaches are some of the nicest in Italy. So we took his recommendation and spent three nights in Realmonte. Angela and Simone, the Bed and Breakfast Scala dei Turchi owners, are passionate about Sicilian traditions and we learned a lot from them. We got to see some of the traditional processions held during Easter week. On Good Friday people eat fish and artichokes and we saw artichoke sellers everywhere.
In Realmonte you can get away from the tourist crowds, experience Sicilian small town life and practice your Italian, too. It makes a great base for visiting the Valley of Temples at Agrigento, one of Sicily's must-see sites. Although it was a little too chilly for the beach, the coast is beautiful and there are lots of flowers blooming. We're told the best time to visit is April and May.
