The Porticos of Bologna

Saturday April 5, 2008
bologna italy travel pictureWhat's the best Italian city for walking in the rain? Bologna, with its many porticos, or covered walkways, is a great place for walking even in the rain. According to Mary Jane Cryan in her article about Bologna's porticos on Italian Notebook, the Portico Trek is fast becoming a must-do for visitors since its mention in John Grisham's book The Broker (compare prices).

Bologna is a beautiful city in northern Italy's Emilia Romagna region that's often overlooked by tourists. Bologna has one of the oldest universities in Europe, a compact and interesting medieval center, and fantastic food. Because it's a hub for several major train lines, it makes an easy travel destination. Find out more about Bologna with our Bologna Travel Guide and more about the Emilia Romagna region with our Emilia Romagna Travel Map.

Bologna is one of our picks for Top Ten Cities in Italy.
