The Enchanting Baroque Town of Ragusa, Sicily
Ragusa is really two towns in one - the Upper Town where half the population decided to build after the 1693 earthquake and the enchanting Ibla or old town that was rebuilt. Coming from the Upper Town to the Ibla, the visitor is rewarded with spectacular views of the old town.
Because of the earthquake, most of Ragusa's buildings were built or restored at the height of the Baroque period. Its Baroque monuments have earned it UNESCO World Heritage status.
