Where to Stay near Rome
Flavor of Italy Country Inn is a great alternative to staying right in Rome. It's in the countryside but just a 20 minute train ride to Rome's Piazza del Popolo (see photo). After spending the day sight-seeing, I was happy to leave the crowds, relax in a peaceful setting and enjoy dinner in a good restaurant filled with locals for less than I'd pay in Rome. The room is less costly than it would be in Rome, too, so it's a good way to save money. In summer, guests appreciate leaving the heat of the city to come home to breezes and a swimming pool.
Wendy, the owner of the inn, helps guests make the most of their visit to Rome. She spends time talking to them, finding out what they like, and helping them plan their day. It's this kind of really personal service that makes Flavor of Italy special.
There is also one apartment available at a very reasonable rate, perfect for families or groups. Using the apartment as a base, guests can shop at local food markets in Rome (with Wendy's help) and make dinner at home, another way to save money. For those guests not wanting to cook or eat out, Wendy and her husband will make pizza in the pizza oven or a home cooked meal on request. Since she's a gourmet cook, breakfast was fantastic.
In addition to the bed and breakfast, Wendy offers cooking classes in her gourmet kitchen and sets up gastronomic tours both in Rome and other parts of Italy. Find out more on Flavor of Italy.
