St. Mark's Square, Piazza San Marco, will be the venue for four concerts in July, 2008. The following concert information is provided by Buongiorno Venezia, the newsletter for Veniceword.
On 8 July, the Momix dancers show (tickets: 25 to 85 euros); 9 July, Elton John's piano concert (40 to 174 euros); 14 July, the Italian pianist and composer Giovanni Allevi (30 to 70 euros); 15 July, Gilberto Gil in a special evening dedicated to Brazilian music (30 to 70 euros). During the concerts, people will be invited to donate money via SMS messages to support Venice's cultural heart, St. Mark's Square.St. Mark's Square is the site most visited by tourists traveling to Venice. The square, or piazza, has long been the heart of Venice and was called the drawing room of Europe by Napoleon. Around the square are elegant historic buildings and expensive cafes, some with live music in the evening, and the main tourist sites of St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Campanile (bell tower), and the Correr Museum.
