60 Years of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice
The first temporary exhibit, Coming of Age - American Art 1850s to 1950s, opens June 28, 2008. Free guided visits of this exhibit and another opening in November will be held every afternoon at 3:30 through the end of the year. There will also be free daily talks about Peggy's life. Other highlights include Kids Days, July films, and lectures in October.
To celebrate her birthday, there's a special members-only Umbria jazz concert on August 26. Orsoni Mosaic Foundry maestra Antonella Gallenda has created a special mosaic portrait of Peggy to be presented to the museum at the concert. "Inspired by a photograph of Guggenheim wearing her signature Surrealist sunglasses made for her by Edward Melcarth, the portrait is done in the genre of Modernism.”
