Budget Lodging for Visiting Rome

Teresa Plowright, about.com's guide to Family Vacations, recommends staying in a bungalow at Flaminio Village, in the north of Rome as a way to save money on a Rome vacation. She says you can take the bus into Rome for the day. Besides being a good budget travel tip, this is an especially good choice for families and those traveling by car. They also have a camping village.

rome italy travel pictureIn related Rome travel news, it seems that visitors will no longer be able to enjoy a drink or snack while sitting on the famous Spanish Steps (see photo) or at other major tourist attractions in an effort to minimize the huge amounts of trash they leave behind. According to an Associated Press report, snacking at Rome historic center monuments is banned through October and violators can be fined.

Last year, visitors to Venice were asked to refrain from eating in Piazza San Marco, as well as a few other things, in an effort to clean up Venice's main piazza and tourist attraction. Read more in While in Venice, Keep Your Shirt On.
