Monte San Savino Porchetta Festival

Sunday August 31, 2008
Monte San Savino, one of Tuscany's hill towns, is famous for its delicious porchetta - young pigs seasoned and roasted in a wood oven and sold at many open air markets, often in a sandwich or panino di porchetta. Each September Monte San Savino celebrates with a porchetta festival. In 2008, the sagra della porchetta is on September 13-14. I just may be there myself as it's one of my husband's favorite things to eat in Italy.

Monte San Savino dates from Etruscan times and has a small but evocative historic center. It's worth a stop if you're driving on the A1 autostrada between Florence and Cortona. Take a look at Monte San Savino and the surrounding valley as seen from the top of its restored clock tower in our Monte San Savino Pictures.

Martha,

If you will be going to the sagra in Monte San Savino on either the 13th or 14th, please let us know. We only live 8 kilometers from town. My wife, Martha and I, can meet you there.

If you have the time, please plan on stopping by for a glass of wine or a beverage and enjoy the beautiful sunset from our front porch or terrace. If you are planning on staying over, we have a 1 bedroom guest house that we make available to friends and family at a very attractive rate in dollars.

Ciao, Ben
