Dreaming of owning a house on Sicily? This might be your chance. In an effort to restore the historic center, the mayor of Salemi, south of Palermo, is offering houses in danger of falling down for just one euro, according to
The Guardian. The only catch is that the new owner must agree to restore the house within two years. Salemi has a good ancient quarter, part of it more than 1000 years old, and the mayor hopes to preserve it.
Sicily is a popular travel destination and according to Sebastian Harrison of Cellular Abroad (cell phones for Italy Travel) who is restoring a house on Sicily's coast, "Sicily could be the next Tuscany". David Moss appers to be a contractor with an interest in attracting clients. I would be interested in learning about purchasing and rebuilding a house in Salemi, working directly with local craftsmen and acting as my own contractor. Do you have any information on who I would contact?
