Many Italian towns have weekly outdoor markets selling clothing, household items, and food. Visiting an outdoor market is a good way to buy picnic items, find out about local foods, and learn Italian food words. Take a look at this video of me shopping in the Fivizzano Tuesday Market made by James Martin, Europe Travel.
Shopping in outdoor markets is usually economical. As mentioned in comments on my recent blog post, staying in a vacation home or agriturismo apartment is a good way to save money on an Italy vacation. It's what I recommend in my 2-weeks in Italy Suggested Itinerary. Not only will you save money and have a place to wash your clothes, but you'll get to shop at the local markets.
