Thursday September 25, 2008
All are welcome to the town of Vetralla (see location information below) on October 4-5 for the first Vendemmia or Wine Making Festival. Watch how wine making was done in the past and how it is done today and participate in wine and cheese tastings and tastings of wine and chocolate led by a sommelier and an enologist.

Gastronomic stands with typical foods of wine making season and the local culture will be available throughout the weekend in the Cantinone, a grotto excavated centuries ago under the city’s historic center. Stands will sell locally made biological products: wines, jams, tomato sauces, Chianina meat, extra virgin olive oil, truffles, beans, honey, cheese, sausages and hazelnuts.

Sunday morning join in a literary walk with recitations connected to wine making culture. A theatrical show, Mondovino, will enliven the special dinner to be held in the Cantinone with bruschette, ricotta with honey, vegetables cooked in wine, pumpkin pasta, farro and contadina soup, roast meats and sausage with grapes, salad, biscotti, water, wine (cost 15 euro) plus 5 euro for theatrical show. To book tel. Chiara 3476807592 or 3476210901.

Here's the complete festival schedule in Italian. For English information contact Mary Jane Cryan at macryan@libero.it or tel. 0761-485008.

Vetralla is in the interesting region of Northern Lazio north of Rome - see our Northern Lazio map for location and more about the region. In the area are several good Etruscan sites, vineyards, and the unusual Bomarzo Monster Park.
