Free Artisan Walking Tours in Florence

Friday November 7, 2008
Kyle Phillips, our guide to Italian Food, sent me a tip about free walking tours offered by the city of Florence. These tours, called Mestieri della Moda, are led by guides who also speak English. On the tour participants visit two traditional artisans of the clothing, fashion, or jewelry sectors and an art site such as a church or museum. Check the Mestieri della Moda web site for upcoming walks and to make a reservation. Kyle says
We visited an old-style tailor who does magnificent men's clothes and a jeweler. Unfortunately you have to take the combinations they offer, but it is free and opens a window onto a different part of Florence.
A few weeks ago we met Kyle in Florence and spent the day with him walking around the city and eating at one of his favorite places, Trattoria Sabatino preceded by a stop at a traditional lampredotto stand. You can see where we went in our Self-guided Florence Walk.
