Italy Travel by Horse or Kayak
Wednesday November 19, 2008
Horse enthusiasts may be interested to know that there's an equestrian route all the way from Marsala, Sicily (see Sicily map) in the southwest of Italy to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in Italy's northeast. In 2004, European trekking champion Massimo Peresson and journalist and photographer Barbara Essl made the two month trek across Italy on horseback and mapped out a 2400 kilometer equestrian route that's accessible to independent riders. Italia a Cavallo has photos from the trip and information about the route and sixty agriturismo vacation spots that they visited.
Kayaks are becoming more popular in Italy, too, and Barbara Kossy, along with Sea Kayak Italy, runs kayaking adventures off the coast of Elba Island each September. Take a look at her photos from the 2008 Elba Island Kayak trip where you'll also find plans for 2009.
