Christmas on Via San Gregorio Armeno
Via San Gregorio Armeno in Naples, the street of nativity workshops, is one of Italy's top Christmas shopping destinations. Besides the shops selling terra cotta figures, inlaid wood products, and items for nativity scenes, in December stalls are set up at the end of the street for a Christmas market, with some vendors dressed in traditional shepherd costume.
Marina De Martino, of Napoli No Stress Itinerari, says that "the shops in San Gregorio Armeno start to be more intensely illuminated for Christmas with tiny lights in Christmas cribs. Workshops begin to work frenetically during the days before Christmas, to liven up those sketches of rural life or simple life placed around a stall as American tourists come to the old city of Naples looking for a Neapolitan angel."
