Saint Joseph's Day in Italy

By , About.com Guide   March 16, 2009

Follow me on:

Saint Joseph's Day, or Feast Day of San Giuseppe, is celebrated all over Italy on March 19. Father's Day in Italy is a part of Saint Joseph's Day to commemorate Joseph, the father of Jesus.

zeppole pastry pictureIn some places, Saint Joseph's Day is still celebrated with bonfires or pageants and there's even a donkey race in a Tuscan village - read about it in March Festivals in Italy. Zeppole, my favorite Italian pastry, is traditionally eaten on the Feast Day of San Giuseppe. You'll find zeppole in a pasticceria (definition of pasticceria) in Italy and in some Italian bakeries in the US or you can make your own with this recipe for Zeppole on our Italian Cuisine site.

Here's more about La Festa di San Giuseppe on Italian Notebook.

FYI – St. Joseph is the foster-father of Jesus.
