Rome is a tough act to follow! Florence would be my second choice, and Venice last when compared with the other two.
There isn’t enough room in this comment section to talk of the beauty of Rome, the culture of Florence, and the history of Venice.
They are all great in their own way….but Rome, aah Rome!

I agree, there’s so much to see and do in Rome. It’s true that they are all great in their own way and each city is really unique.

I love all three cities (can I vote three times?) but have to say that Rome is my favorite. I think it’s due to several factors. First, Rome is where it all began. The history of the city is completely fascinating – better than any novel, really. Second, you can explore practically any period of history here, frome ancient times to the Renaissance to the modern era. Third, Rome is home to the Vatican, the heart of Catholicism, and to St. Peter’s. Fourth, Rome is not just a tourism showpiece but a living city, where you can encounter so much of the real Italian culture and discover for yourself what it’s like to live and work in Italy.

Ah Venice has a special spot in my heart. I have lost count of the number of times I’ve been. My best memories include wandering the small calle, “lost”, just ambling, just enjoying the small details, stumbling on piazzas here and there, stopping at a bar for a coffee or a prosecco.
I had a friend there with a boat who would take me through the canals…. just magic.
Love also listening to the dialect, and the food and wine.

Interesting results. Far closer than when I first posted. Just goes to prove the old adage; Il mondo el bello perche’ e’ vario! (Variety is the spice of life)

Rome has the history, the energy, the style and sometimes the weather. Great city for a holiday, but you would have to get to be very good on the scooters to survive too long.

I can’t choose. They all have their own magical characteristics.
Any country would be happy to have one cultural city full of art. But Italy has three! All of them are literally choke-full of art. You have to live many life times over to see all of Italy

I had a holiday in Venice before I ever saw Florence and previously had only been to Rome on hurried business trips so lost my heart to the wonderful city of Venice and have never regretted it even after later repeated visits to both Rome and Florence. You could say love at first sight!

All three of these cities are awesome and have reasons of their own to visit. Fast paced Rome first, Florence to slow down and enjoy and then Venice fir it’s own wonderment
