Walking on the Walls of Lucca
Lucca, one of the top places to visit in Tuscany, is one of my favorites and one of the few towns that's flat, not a hill town. Lucca's walls surrounding the historic center are some of Italy's best preserved ramparts. The top of the walls has been turned into a tree-lined path, making a good vantage point for viewing the tops of Lucca's churches, towers, and monuments.
Take a look at Lucca's ramparts, the San Pietro gate, and views from the ramparts with our Lucca Walls Pictures. Another good view spot is the top of Guinigi Tower - here's a bird's eye view of Lucca from the tower.

Ciao Martha; Beautiful photos. There are a couple of places I regret not having seen during our trips to Italy and Lucca is one of them. I am curious about the Duomo di San Martino. Was the upper portion of the bell tower rebuilt? or are they just cleaning it?

I think they were just cleaning it. It’s too bad you missed Lucca but you saw many nice towns. Hopefully you’ll get to Italy again.
