Ascoli Piceno is a pretty medieval town in central Italy's Marche region. It's worth a visit any time for its large medieval center but a good time to go is during la Quintana, a jousting tournament with medieval roots. As is often the case in Italy, the festival includes a procession with participants dressed in medieval costume and fireworks at the end.
