Cortona, the medieval Tuscan hill town made famous in the book Under the Tuscan Sun (compare prices) by Francis Mayes (who was also a co-founder of the festival), hosts the Tuscan Sun Festival August 3 - 9. The 2009 Tuscan Sun Festival features actor Anthony Hopkins and opera star Angela Gheorghiu and has something for everyone. In addition to concerts and performances there are a variety of wine and cuisine events, cooking classes, a wellness program featuring tai chi and power walks, literary events, art exhibits, and films. There's even an Etruscan tour and Etruscan lunch. Event and performance tickets are sold online and at the festival.
