Mosaic Arts Festival in Ravenna
Ravenna, often called the city of mosaics, holds its first international mosaic arts festival October 10 - November 20, 2009. Ravenna was the western capital of the Roman Empire and of the Byzantine Empire in Europe during the 5th through 8th centuries. Stunning mosaics from that period adorn the walls of its churches and monuments and have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Ravenna is still a top producer of mosaics today.
