La Quintana, a jousting tournament with medieval roots, is held the first Sunday of August in Ascoli Piceno, a pretty medieval town in central Italy's Marche region. You'll have to pay admission to see the actual jousting but the festival also includes processions with participants dressed in medieval costume both before and after the jousting, food, music, and fireworks at the end.
