New Year's Eve is an exciting time to be in Italy. Many cities and towns have concerts in a piazza, starting around 9 or 10PM with a grand fireworks display and often a brindisi, or toast, at midnight. These festivities often go on all night. Remember that major events often draw huge crowds so plan to arrive early, watch from afar, or choose a small town celebration. Driving and parking may be difficult (or impossible) so check out public transportation options ahead of time and remember that they'll be crowded, too.
Rimini is one of Italy's top cities for nightlife and New Year's Eve is no exception. In addition to events and parties in nightclubs, there's music and dancing in Piazzale Fellini followed, of course, by fireworks. This event is normally shown on Italian television so if you prefer to avoid the crowds you can join in on your hotel's TV.
Lentils, symbolizing money, are traditionally part of the New Year's Eve dinner and for good luck, be sure to wear your red underwear. Read more about Italian New Year's Eve traditions and top places to ring in the new year in Italy.
