Italy's top three cities are excellent places to ring in the new year. Main squares offer entertainment and fireworks while nightclubs and concert venues offer a variety of music. Most public transportation has extended hours and parking is very limited. Be sure to reserve ahead for special events and allow extra time to get to them. Expect big crowds in public venues.
In Florence you can choose from classical music in the English Church of Saint Mark's, a medieval dinner, or entertainment in a club and watch the midnight fireworks over the Arno River. Rome's top public venues include Piazza del Popolo, Via dei Fori Imperiali, and classical music in Piazza del Quirinale. Venice celebrates in Saint Mark's Square with a group kiss at midnight and la Fenice Theater hosts opera, dinner, and ballroom dancing.
