Perugia, the capital of central Italy's Umbria region, is a lively and interesting hill town with attractions ranging from 3rd century BC Etruscan remains and medieval buildings to modern shops and restaurants and the famous Baci chocolates. Perugia can be reached by train or bus and makes a good base for visiting several Umbrian hill towns, studying Italian at the Universita per Stranieri, or going to the summer Umbria Jazz Festival.
