Puglia a Hot Bike Tour Destination

puglia coast photoPuglia, the southern Italy region often called the heel of the boot, was named by BikeToursDirect as one of 8 hot destinations for bicycle travel in 2013. They offer four different 7 day Puglia bike tours with ratings from leisurely to moderate. Three of these tours also take in nearby Matera, the Basilicata town known for its sassi district, a ravine filled with cave dwellings and churches. The Puglia tours offer choices of Alberobello with its unique trulli, the Salento Peninsula, a castle and wine tour that takes in the octagonal castle, Castel del Monte, or a self-guided tour.

Don't want to ride a bike? Europe by Choice is leading a deluxe guided Puglia and Sorrento tour in late September, a great time to visit both of these places. The tour starts with five nights in Puglia and then moves to the town of Sorrento for touring the scenic Amalfi Coast.

Yeh for Puglia! We live off the blue line of the Italian Designated bike trails which heads out of San Vito towards Brindisi (Masseria Apani) then to Torre Guaceto’s WWF Nature Reserve co-located with Penne Grosso sandy lido (beach). Guests who have stayed with us at Villa Donna love the 8+km bike ride to the beach (mild to moderate). Some have to request our shuttle service back home after a long day in the sun but the countryside paved trail through the ancient Serranova Olive groves is well worth any effort!
