Martha Bakerjian has traveled extensively in Italy, starting nearly 30 years ago, and has produced the Italy Travel site since 2005. She currently spends nearly half the year in her house in northern Tuscany, using the house as a base for in-depth exploration of Italy. Martha is passionate about Italian food and culture and enjoys sharing her vast experience with others.
Martha's Italy travels have included every region of Italy. She enjoys going to traditional festivals, talking with the locals, visiting historic sites, exploring off the beaten track destinations, and sampling the regional cuisine.
Martha spent five summers in central Sardinia, where, as a member of the staff, she helped plan the logistics for an archaeological project, cooked traditional Italian cuisine for the crew, and managed the dig house. She also participated in an archaeological survey in the region of Puglia, walking a considerable area of the heel of Italy's boot while stopping occasionally to interview locals about possible ancient artifacts in the area. She recently wrote Italy Travel Tips & Hints and Puglia Travel Guide apps for iDevices.
Martha has a bachelor's degree in social ecology. She is a credentialed educator and taught in California for 30 years. She has also studied Italian language and culture at the University for Foreigners in Perugia, Italy.
