Enjoy these pictures of trulli in Alberobello, Italy. Click on a thumbnail to see it larger.
Alberobello, in southern Italy's Puglia region, is the capital of trulli country (see Puglia map). Trulli are unique architectural structures, with conical roofs made of limestone slabs, that are found in the Itria Valley surrounding Alberobello. The trulli zone of Alberobello (Zona Monumentale Trulli), with more than 1500 trulli, is one of southern Italy's World Heritage Sites.
Many trulli are still lived in but some have been converted to restaurants, shops, and hotels or holiday houses. I stayed in a trullo in the trulli village of Grand Hotel La Chiusa di Chietri (book direct) outside Alberobello.
