Santa Sofia Church was decorated with mosaics, customary of Longobard churches at the time, such as the ones found in Ravenna (see Ravenna mosaic pictures). Some mosaics and frescoes remain but most of the frescoes were destroyed by monks in the 11th century. These monks believed that churches should be plain, not decorated, to avoid distractions. The remaining frescoes have been restored.
