Certaldo Alto, in the Chianti region, is an interesting Tuscan hilltown that had Etruscan roots. Certaldo was the home of Boccaccio, author of Il Decamerone, written in 1351, and you can visit his house. Certaldo Alto is worth a day trip, although you can stay here as well.
